Connecting the recently unemployed with critical resources and jobs
The spread of COVID-19 has brought communities and businesses to a standstill over the past few months. In the shadow of that slowdown, millions of Americans have filed for unemployment and sought out new jobs as uncertainty about the future persists.
To help fill the gap, the multiple state governments, Bitwise Industries, state agencies, and community partners collectively put time and resources together to create OnwardUS, a one-stop shop for Americans who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic. Our website, launched by Bitwise and the Kapor Center, connects people to COVID-19 information and resources like job postings, food assistance, childcare, and housing. With the help of our partners, we’ve created a unique portal where Americans can get matched with employment opportunities and emergency resources tailored to their needs and location. The national launch comes on heels of an earlier nonprofit partnership between Bitwise and Salesforce to launch California’s own OnwardCA initiative. During the first 24 hours, their state-wide site matched 206,000 Californians with resources.
As more states look to launch their own version of “Onward,” the OnwardUS coalition has expanded to include dozens of partners across the country to support residents in California, Colorado, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Illinois, Washington, Oregon, Connecticut and the District of Columbia. We’re hopeful that our resource will help get Americans back on their feet and connected to essential resources and jobs.
